Pointers is well equipped with advanced and up to date computer systems, together with colour printers and the appropriate educational software. As well as classroom-based PC’s our computer suite has a good range of modern desktop and laptop machines, most with broadband internet connection. An electronic whiteboard has also recently been fitted, with more to follow.
Children have a natural facility for learning how computers work and we develop their enthusiasm by giving them plenty of hands-on experience.
Our intention is not just to use the computers for entering and storing information but also to retrieve, process and display it. A child who has correctly entered a story and seen the end result successfully displayed and printed gains great pleasure as well as a sense of achievement.
Parents will be pleased to note that the Pointer School does not use any 'wireless' connections, but has been pro-active in reverting to a 'wired' network. Recent advice and research, notably from Sweden and Australia, has highlighted the danger (to children in particular) of emissions from wireless networks.
