Pointers Nursery and Reception at 37 Shooters Hill Road

Map

The Pointer School opened (in September 2010) its new Nursery and Reception department in what was formerly ‘MARNIC HOUSE’ at 37 Shooters Hill Road. The building is something of a landmark in Blackheath and many will be familiar with the view as they cross the heath along the Princess of Wales Road.

It is a large, detached Georgian building currently listed as Grade II. We are very excited at this extension of the school and most especially a move into such an outstanding building. It has an excellent playground to the front and many toys, games and tricycles to play with. Play is, of course, an important activity at this site and will remain so.

Furthermore, I would like to reassure all parents that although we are on two sites, we continue to function as one school with shared assemblies, nativities, sport’s days etc. Staff also meet as one group in frequent staff meetings and, of course, socially too. The Nursery and Reception also have their own kitchen with an excellent cook and assistant. Mr Reynaldo Zenit and Mrs Jane Barrett provide two course lunches using only organic produce.

The building whilst maintaining its Georgian character and feel also has many other ‘state-of-the-art’ features which would certainly define it as an ‘outstanding facility’. For example, fresh air induction and replacement in all rooms. An entirely new, low surface temperature heating system, together with automatic temperature control. New toilets, new lighting systems, insulation, luxury carpets and professional decoration are evident. Security is obviously very important and we enjoy a new wrap around wall and fencing. There are two pedestrian gates and two main access gates (main gates are for service, maintenance and emergency only) which will need a code or identification to be opened. Parents with children at this Early Years Department should never attempt to park in the vicinity as it is surrounded by red lines (some double!).

Children are, of course, only admitted to the Early Years Department on the general understanding that they will be progressing through to year 6. Families are actively selected on whether they are able and willing to make this commitment.

Headmaster: Mr R.J.S Higgins MA, Bed (Hons), CertEd, FCollp
