Mathematics

We follow the guidance of the National Numeracy Strategy in Mathematics and are currently in the stages of implementing the New Framework for Mathematics as recommended by the DfES. We also use the New Heinemann SPMG Maths Scheme to compliment our teaching of mathematics. A variety of teaching methods are used to deliver the curriculum, and include whole class, group, individual and paired work teaching.

Pupils are challenged and extended further by a series of targets and those students that require additional help receive extra adult support due to our small class sizes. The four rules of addition, subtraction, multiplication and division are emphasised and each child is encouraged to work logically and with precision.

We realise that our young children in the Nursery and Reception will be at pre-operational stages and will therefore need to spend much time with sand, water, construction sets, cubic blocks, rods, etc if they are later to think more conceptually.
